29th September - On Your Marks
Meet at 11am in Intake Lane outside the Children’s Play Area
for a cycle ride via the rural byways of Gypsey Lane and the
back lanes of Heslington to the Charles XIIth for lunch,
followed by a visit to look around the new York Sport Village
and swimming pool on the new University of York campus, and then
afternoon tea in its new café. Join us for lunch at 12 noon in
the Charles XII in Heslington if you wish, before our visit to
the new Sport Village, which is a major new sports facility
close to Dunnington.
Saturday 13th October - Hepworth Art Gallery
A visit to “Yorkshire’s inspiring new art gallery,
celebrating the area’s unique artistic legacy and exploring the
work of major contemporary artists” whose “ten superb gallery
spaces make this one of the UK’s largest purpose-built galleries
outside London” and “one of the finest contemporary art museums
in Europe”. Meet at 10am outside the Reading Room in Dunnington
for our visit by car to the new Hepworth gallery in Wakefield.
Let David know on 01904 488674 if you need a lift. After lunch
there at 1pm, we hope to visit the nearby Pugneys Country Park,
with a chance for a walk round its two lakes that are overlooked
by Sandal Castle, before afternoon tea in its café.
Admission to the Hepworth gallery is free, so join us if you can
for culture, food and fresh air!
Wednesday 14th November - Living
Landscapes and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
Rob Stoneman, the Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Wildlife
Trust, will be giving us a very stimulating illustrated
presentation on the important topic of “Living
Landscapes and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust"
on which he has both great expertise and much
practical local knowledge. Bring your neighbours and friends
along too, so that even more people are aware of the challenges
and opportunities that protecting our local wildlife involves.
Meet at 8pm in the Reading Room. Admission is free to members,
non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p.
Sunday 13th January - New Year Lunch
Brighten up the dark days of winter by joining us for our
now-traditional New year Lunch, this year at the Dunnington
Sports Centre, with a chance for a good walk beforehand to get your
appetite up. Meet at 11am outside the Children’s Play Area on Intake
Lane for the walk, or at 1.15pm for a drink before the lunch at
1.30pm at the Sports Centre. So please let Michael Dunn on 01904

Woodland Working Parties - Conservation in Action
These will be held on the mornings of Saturdays 6th October,
17th November, 8th December and 5th January, so do put these
dates in your diary. Meet at 10am at the Hagg Farm end of Intake
Lane. Bring gloves if you can, and wear stout shoes or wellies.
