Saturday 15th February  -  A Wildlife Planting Event

Help contribute to the future splendour of the wood by taking part in our morning of planting wildlife-friendly hazel, oak, field maple and other species in the Jubilee wood and Crater areas of Hagg Wood. Meet at 10am at the Intake Lane entrance to the wood. Bring gloves and good footwear.

Wednesday 26th February  -  Farming for Wildlife

Terry Smithson of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust will be giving us an illustrated talk on the contribution which improved farming methods can make to wildlife conservation. Particularly in conjunction with our farm visit on 1st March, this should be a very interesting and informative talk. Meet at 8pm in Dunnington Reading Room. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50.

Saturday 1st March -  Visiting a Wildlife Farm

This a good opportunity for a guided walk providing fascinating insights into a wide range of wildlife-friendly farming schemes. Meet at the Dunnington Reading Room car park at 10am where lifts can be arranged if you are not bringing your car. Alternatively meet at Manor Farm (YO19 6RG, Grid reference SE 590385), which is just to the left of the western approach to Kelfield, at 10.30am.  After our walk, we plan to have lunch around 12.30pm at a suitable pub in Riccall.

Saturday 10th May  -  Dawn Chorus

If you have ever wondered what the Dawn Chorus sounds like in Hagg Wood in all its glory, this is your chance to find out. Meet at the Intake Lane entrance to the wood at 5am. In reward for our efforts a hearty breakfast may be on offer afterwards! Bring your binoculars and stout shoes or wellies.

Wednesday 28th May  -  A Wealth of Wildflowers and AGM

After our AGM, Dr Margaret Atherden of PLACE will be giving an illustrated presentation on the wealth of wildflowers to be found along the roadside verges of North Yorkshire revealed in her recent book. Meet at 8pm in Dunnington Reading Room. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50.

Saturday 31st May -  Cycle Ride to Wheldrake Ings

Meet at 10am outside the Children’s Activity Park in Intake Lane for a cycle ride led by Olwyn to Wheldrake Ings. Then lunch at the Ferry Boat Inn at 1pm, and a chance for more viewing of birds and wildlife before an afternoon cycle home.

Woodland Working Parties -  Conservation in Action

These will be held on the mornings of Saturdays 25th January, 15th February, 22nd March, 3rd May, 24th May, 21st June and 12th July, so do put these dates in your diary. Meet at 10am at the Hagg Farm end of Intake Lane. Bring gloves if you can, and wear stout shoes or wellies.
