Wednesday 24th February  -   Beautiful Butterflies

Butterflies are both beautiful and in need of conservation, so come along and hear how we can help them to flourish with Dr Rachel Pateman. Meet at 8pm in the Reading Room. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p

Monday 21st March -   Hassacarr Nature Reserve: Saving a Place for Wildlife

Local  amateur  naturalist  and  Warden of our local Hassacarr Nature Reserve,Terry Weston, will be giving us another of his annual spectacular photographic extravaganzas in the Reading Room at  7.30pm, by kind invitation of the Dunnington Conservation Group. Admission is free.

Saturday 9th April   -   Cycle Ride to Buttercrambe Wood

A chance for some healthy exercise and fresh air. Meet outside the childrenís play area on Intake Lane at 10.30am. We hope to take in a circle including Holtby, Warthill, Upper Helmsley and Sand Hutton, with refreshments around noon at the Balloon Tree.

Saturday 14th May  -   Markenfield Hall

Markenfield Hall is one of Englandís finest surviving 14th Century country houses, and is located 3 miles south of Ripon. We will meet at the Reading Room car park at 10.30am or directly at the West Gate Car Park (free to NT and non-NT members) at Fountains Abbey at 12 noon for our walk to Markenfield Hall by about 1.30pm. Bring a packed lunch. We aim to have tea at the main visitorís centre at about 4pm. Please let David know on 488674 if you need a lift.

 

Wednesday 25th May  -  Urban Buzz York & AGM

 

Woodlands provide especially fertile areas for insects to flourish, to the benefit of local birdlife and other wildlife. The importance too of bees and other insect pollinators to the human food chain is increasingly recognised. Harry Woolner and the Urban Buzz York team (see https://www.buglife.org.uk/urban-buzz/york). are now actively aiming to improve our local natural environment for them to flourish. Harryís illustrated talk will immediately follow our AGM. Meet at 8pm in the Reading Room. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p.

 

Saturday 4th June  -   Celebration Time

We will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary in the wood from 2pm-4pm today, with Dunnington Community Choir and the popular local folk group Woodsmoke. An event not to be missed.

 

Saturday 6th August   -   Brockfield Hall Cycle Ride

 

Another chance for some healthy exercise and fresh air. Meet outside the childrenís play park on Intake Lane at 10.30am. We will aim to stop for refreshments at Breezy Knees en route and be at Brockfield Hall (admission £7 or free to HHA members) near Warthill by 1pm.

Woodland Working Parties  -  Conservation in Action

These will be held on the mornings of Saturdays 13th February, 12th March, 16th April, 7th May, 28th May, 18th June and 9th July so do put these dates in your diary. Meet at 10am at the Hagg Farm end of Intake Lane. Bring gloves if you can, and wear stout shoes or wellies.
