Visit of Mr Horne to Hagg Wood - 21 Jun 14
We were very pleased to have a visit to Hagg Wood in June by our oldest member, Mr Arthur Horne, who is 101 years of age and has been a supporter of the group for many years. Some time back he gave us some locally sourced alder buckthorn seeds to grow on and eventually transplant into the wood. We had success with several of the seeds and the first 8 healthy saplings were planted in the wood earlier this year. Mr Horne was able to see them, plus a further one being planted that day. When mature the alder buckthorn shrubs will be of great benefit to the wildlife in the wood, especially for the birds who feed on the berries in winter months.
