                                           EVENTS PROGRAMME - SPRING 2012 

Wednesday 29th February -  Space and Time

Local author Andrew Sefton presents “Map Making and the Creation of Sundials” at Dunnington Parish Church Tower Room at 8pm. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p.

Tuesday 27th March -   A Spectacular Naturalist’s Year

Local amateur naturalist and Warden of our local Hassacarr Pond Nature Reserve,Terry Weston, will be giving us another of his annual spectacular photographic extravaganzas in the Reading Room at  7.30pm, by kind invitation of the Dunnington Conservation Group.  This time his subject will be “A Naturalist’s Year 2011”, so come early for a seat. Admission is free to members and non-members.

Sunday 15th April  -  A Sunday Morning Walk

A local morning nature walk jointly with members of Dunnington Conservation Group led by Terry Weston. Meet at the beech tree circular seat on Common Road at 9.30am.

Saturday 28th April  -  Visit to Hackfall Wood

Meet at the Reading Room car park at 10.30am for our trip to Hackfall, a delightful wood on the banks of the River Ure near Masham. We’ll have lunch at the Crown, Grewelthorpe at 12 noon, then walk through the wood and look at the follies that were created by landscape architect William Aislabie, who designed Studley Royal at Fountains Abbey. Please note that that  there are steep slopes on the walk which can be slippery, uneven and muddy, so you need to be fit and wear appropriate footwear. If you would like to come to the lunch, please let David know on 488674 by 21st April. Otherwise you can join us at 2pm at the car park at Hackfall on the road between Masham and Grewelthorpe.


Wednesday 23rd May -  York Biodiversity & AGM

Bob Missin, Countryside Officer of the City of York Council will be giving us an illustrated talk on “Nature Conservation and Biodiversity in the York Area” immediately after our AGM. Meet at 8pm in the Reading Room. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p.


Sunday 10th June -  Cycle Ride to Askham Bog

Meet at 10.30am with your bike outside the children’s play area in Intake Lane, Dunnington, for a cycle ride led by Olwyn to Askham Bog. After our visit we will aim to have Sunday lunch at the Marcia Inn, Bishopthorpe at 12.30pm. If you prefer not to cycle, you are welcome to join us for lunch. We then plan to cycle on to Rowntree Park for a refreshing cup of tea, before heading home.  Please let David  know on 488674 a few days before if you would like to come to the lunch.

Woodland Working Parties -  Conservation in Action

These will be held on the mornings of Saturdays 28th January, 11th and 25th February, 10th March, 21st April, 12th May, 9th June and 7th July so do put these dates in your diary. Meet at 10am at the Hagg Farm end of Intake Lane. Bring gloves if you can, and wear stout shoes or wellies.
