Over the last few months we
have been very busy planting trees, shrubs and wild flowers, with
the help of local children, their parents, grandparents and friends.
The majority of the trees were provided free by the Woodland Trust
in recognition of the Queen’s Jubilee. To celebrate the completion
of the planting, we decided to hold a Jubilee party in the wood and
this took place on Saturday 14th July. We were entertained with some
delightful music and song from local musicians (John, Caroline, Tim,
Nelly, Richard and Sam) and there was also an opportunity for
everyone to participate, as there was a good supply of African style
drums available. With the minimum of tuition we were able to follow
the beat and join in. Cath Bashforth from the Forestry
Commission helped with crafts for the children and provided a nature
quiz with a royal theme. There were plenty of cakes and soft drinks
and even the weather was kind to us, the rain holding off until the
end of what was a very pleasant afternoon.
